Huaneng Power International, Inc. (“the Company”or“HPI”) and its subsidiaries are mainly engaged in developing,
constructing, operating and managing large power plants throughout China and the Company is one of the largest
listed power producers in the country. As of 31 December 2020, the Company had a controlling generation capacity
of 113,357MW and an equity-based generation capacity of 98,948MW. The Company’s domestica power plants are
located in 26 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. The Company also wholly owns an operating power
company in Singapore and invests in a power company in Pakistan.
The Company was incorporated on 30 June 1994 and completed an initial global public offering of 1,250,000,000
overseas listed foreign shares (“Foreign Shares”) in October 1994, which were listed on the New York Stock
Exchange (Ticker Symbol: HNP) in the United States by issuing 31,250,000 American Depository Shares (“ADS”). In
January 1998, the Foreign Shares of the Company were listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited by way of
introduction (Stock Code: 902). Subsequently, in March 1998, the Company successfully completed a global placing
of 250,000,000 foreign shares along with a private placing of 400,000,000 domestic shares. In November 2001, the
Company successfully completed the issuance of 350,000,000 A Shares (Stock Code: 600011) in the PRC, of which
250,000,000 domestic public shares were listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. In December 2010, the Company
completed the non-public issuance of 1,500,000,000 A Shares and 500,000,000 H Shares. In November 2014, the
Company completed the non-public issuance of 365,000,000 H Shares. In November 2015, the Company completed the
non-public issuance of 780,000,000 H Shares. In October 2018, the Company completed the non-public issuance of
497,709,919 A Shares. Currently, the total share capital of the Company amounts to approximately 15.7 billion
shares.
The Company is mainly engaged in developing, constructing and operating large power plants throughout China
using modern technology and equipment and with financing from domestic and international sources. As a power
producer, since its inception, the Company has been striving for innovation on technical, structural and
managerial fronts, and has completed many landmark projects in China showcasing its capabilities in technical
advancement, project construction and management style. These landmark projects promoted leapfrog development of
China’s power industry as a whole and power generation equipment manufacturing sector in particular and
underscored the increasing sophistication of power generation enterprises in China in terms of technology and
management. The Company put into operation China’s first imported 600 MW supercritical generating unit, the
first domestically built 1,000MW single-unit capacity ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit and also
the first digitalized 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit. We completed the construction of
the first 1,000 MW generating unit in the world with sea water desulphurization facilities and the 660 MW
high-efficiency ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit with the highest parameter in China. We completed
the construction of the first double reheat ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit in China, and
developed the technology for synergistic treatment of fuel gas of coal-fired power plants, which was
successfully applied in various environmental protection renovation and newly-constructed projects. We
successfully commissioned the first locally developed Digital Control System (DCS) for large thermal power
plants. We built the largest capacity offshore wind power project in Asia, and were involved in mass production
of 5MW wind turbine for the first time in China. We built and operated the furthest offshore wind farm in China.
Domestically the most advanced and the largest natural gas-fired units both in terms of power output and heating
capacity were also built by us. We built the first major energy project along China-Pakistan Economic Corridor,
created the best records in safety, quality and speed among China’s offshore power projects. The Company’s
technical and economic indicators as well as the overall manpower efficiencies are among the best in China’s
power industry. We continue to strive for optimization of our energy mix and geographical coverage,
consolidation of our leadership position in conventional energy, acceleration of new energy development,
synergetic development of various business sectors, broadening of service areas, so as to lift operation
efficiency, service quality and enterprise vitality.

The Company’s controlling shareholder Huaneng International Power Development Corporation (“HIPDC”) is a
Sino-foreign joint venture established in 1985.
